Mission

NEXTSCREEN aims at creating an academic/industrial ecosystem where the doctoral candidates will learn the approach to research, innovation and market exploitation, from the different perspectives of academic centres, small and large companies.

The project aims to award the PhD title at the end of the program in one of the institutes of the Consortium or in their partner institutions.

Secondments

Every doctoral candidate will spend a period of at least 3 months on secondment, visiting another research center or industry, partner of the project.

The goal of the secondment is to train the doctoral candidates with transdisciplinary skills and to transfer the developed knowledge to the entire network.

Workshops

Several workshops will be organized during the project, regularly every c.a. 6 months. The workshop will feature presentations from the supervisors and keynote invited speakers, lab activities and group activities. These workshops will offer unique opportunities for transdisciplinary training (the workshop will cover all the scientific topics of the project from photonics to clinical diagnostics) and the development of transferable skills. Participation to conferences to present the results of the project will be also encouraged

Training by conducting research

The doctoral candidates will use state of the art technologies, including instruments from top-level industrial and academic partners. Initial training on the use of instrumentation and safety is provided by the local institutes within the first months of activity. The research and lab work includes continuous training, given by the local research groups (supervisor, team, mentor) on laser operation and optical design, sample preparation and labelling, manufacturing and operation of fluidics systems, computer vision and platforms for machine learning.

Personal Career Development Plan

The doctoral candidates will undergo an initial analysis of the required training also depending on their previous educational experience. Then, a personalised training, secondments and career development plan will be formalized, conjugating the individual career development needs with the scientific goals of the project.

Benefits

Successful candidates will be part of an international and interdisciplinary network.

  • NEXTSCREEN fellows will be employed according to the rules for Doctoral Candidates in MSCA DNs and the general regulations of each host institution.
  • The financial package will include the following researcher allowances:
    1. Living allowance of €3,400/month (country correction coefficient applies),
    2. Mobility allowance of €600/month,

The guaranteed PhD funding is for 36 months. In addition to their individual scientific projects, all doctoral candidates will benefit from further continuing education, which includes internships and secondments, a variety of training modules as well as transferable skills courses and active participation in workshops and conferences.
