#MeetTheNextscreenDCs – 𝐃𝐂#4 Sourabh Das!
👋 About me
Hi everyone! I’m Sourabh, a researcher from India with a background in Mechanical Engineering (Bachelor’s at NIT Trichy and Master’s at Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi). During my Master’s thesis, I worked on Deterministic Lateral Displacement (DLD), which sparked my long-term interest in microscale flow physics. This experience laid a strong foundation for my current doctoral research.
I’m currently pursuing a PhD at ETH Zürich in the deMello group, where I’m developing a diagnostic platform for leukemia. My goal is to advance rapid, label-free, and clinically adaptable diagnostic tools that integrate seamlessly into biomedical workflows.
🔭 What I am working on
My research lies at the intersection of viscoelastic microfluidics and cellular biomechanics. I’m exploring how elastic flow behavior can be harnessed for precise control and mechanical characterization of cells in continuous flow. By combining hydrodynamic focusing with deformation-based cytometry, I aim to establish a robust framework for mechanical phenotyping, opening new possibilities for non-invasive, high-throughput leukemia diagnostics and beyond.
✨ Something personal
Outside the lab, I’m passionate about sports. Badminton and squash keep me active and competitive, while living in Switzerland has deepened my love for hiking in the Alps. Whether it’s an early sunrise trek or a long alpine trail, being in nature is my weekend escape and a constant source of inspiration.
