👋 About me

I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering from Università degli Studi di Padova and a Master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering from Politecnico di Milano. During my studies I developed a strong fascination for material synthesis, especially through hands on experience in chemistry labs, this ultimately led me to pursuing a PhD at the University of Crete, where I now have the opportunity to merge my interest in biomedical applications with the synthesis of polymers.

🔭 What I am working on

Within NEXTSCREEN-MSCA, my project focuses on synthesizing and characterizing low refractive index plastics for microfluidic applications in this sense my intent is developing scalable protocols based on free radical and controlled polymerization and using two photon polymerization (2PP) to prototype microfluidic devices. The goal is to produce inert, biocompatible chips with refractive indices close to those of biological samples, enabling high quality single cell imaging and offering an alternative to commonly used materials for microscopy as PDMS. My work also involves identifying and optimizing manufacturing processes for these devices and collaborating with partner labs on optics, microscopy and micro/nanofabrication during my planned secondments.

✨ Something personal

Music has been one of my passions since childhood and in the lab I can say I’ve become the unofficial DJ, always ready to set the mood. I’m also a big fan of paleontology (I may or may not have a small army of dinosaurs on my desk). And because science should always have a touch of sparkle, you might catch me in my lab coat with protective gear and a crown, blowing a few soap bubbles to keep the magic alive. If you’re looking for me, just follow the rhythm… or ask for Paloma.
