#MeetTheNextscreenDCs – 𝐃𝐂#1 Matéo Yerlès!

👋 About me

Ciao everyone, I’m Matéo, a young scientist from Belgium! I studied the excellent programme of Master of Science in Photonics Engineering 🇧🇪 at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. I had the chance to do parts of my university program in French, Dutch, and English to fill the Belgian bingo of languages!
Throughout my cursus, I received a scholarship to go to the University of Sydney, where I developed this idealistic vision of science that led me to pursue a career in research, especially in a field such as medical diagnostics as I do with the NEXTSCREEN-MSCA project.

🔭 What I am working on

My project is the integration of an optofluidic chip for Imaging Flow Cytometry, which I carry on at CNR IFN, while being enrolled as a PhD student at Politecnico di Milano at the Department of Physics. It requires an extended knowledge in microfluidics and optics, in addition to work with a femtosecond laser for glass micromachining. At the end of my project, I expect to present an Imaging Flow Cytometer the size of a thumbnail, capable of giving 3D images of cells with high resolution and high throughput.

✨ Something personal

Outside work, I find myself in music that I love to listen to and to play. I love to play jazz on my clarinet or go to jam sessions with my saxophone to play with other persons and meet creative personalities on and outside the stage.
