#MeetTheNextscreenDCs – 𝐃𝐂#3 Arturo Cabrera!

👋 About me

My name is Arturo, and I’m a young researcher from Mexico. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Physics from the Universidad Autónoma de San Luis Potosí. I later had the opportunity to pursue a Master’s in Photonics at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), where I also conducted a research stay in parallel.
During this time, I developed a strong interest in biophotonics, particularly in on-chip fabrication and microscopy imaging, which align perfectly with the goals of the NEXTSCREEN-MSCA project and make my background a great fit for it. I carry on my research work at ICFO and I am currently enrolled as a PhD student at UPC.

🔭 What I am working on

I am developing a new type of fluidic microscope that combines light sheet microscopy with imaging flow cytometry. The goal of this system is to enable high-throughput imaging of flowing samples with three-dimensional optical sectioning.
The novelty of my project lies in the use of elastic light scattering as a contrast mechanism, which allows capturing detailed morphological information of various samples without the need for fluorescent labeling. This approach could open new possibilities for label-free, high-speed 3D imaging in biological and biomedical applications.

✨ Something personal

Sports have been a big part of my life since I was a child. I’m passionate about calisthenics, football, and strength training, they’ve taught me discipline, patience, and consistency.
Beyond sports, I love reading, traveling, and exploring new cultures. I find inspiration in discovering different ways of thinking and living. And few things make me feel more at peace than taking long walks along the beach while listening to good music and reflecting on life.
You’ll usually find me smiling, beer in hand, ready to hit the dance floor with some salsa or Latin beats, and always open to meeting new people.
